Many times Sellers wonder what they should do to prepare their home for sale. Here are some general tips:

  • Clutter – De-cluttering is one the cheapest things you can do. You don’t want to show potential buyers how your house does not have enough space for your family. Start packing now!

  • De-personalize – Again you are trying to showcase your home, not your family or your personal interests or beliefs. If you are worried about someone being offended for example a painting, just remove it.

  • Clean – This may seem obvious, but it is very important to have your house deep cleaned. Your home is one of your biggest investments. If you were selling your car, you wouldn’t have a potential buyer come look at it with food wrappers on the floor. Many even have their cars professionally detailed!

  • Remove/Replace Favorite Items – If you want to take an item, for example the chandelier, replace it before a buyer sees it. Just remove it now, rather then excluding items from the sale that a potential buyer could want.

  • Make Minor Repairs Now – Less items that will need to be addressed during the home inspection. Let buyers know that you have taken good care of your home.

  • Smell – Many people are sensitive to smell. You need to be aware of any odors, especially if you have pets or smoke. It may be helpful to ask for an outsider’s opinion, since you may be used to any odors.
